Root Beer Cocktails to Keep You Warm All Winter

Root Beer Cocktails
‘Tis the season when beers get a little darker, wines get a little more hearty, and cocktails get spicier. The inviting aroma of holiday baking is in the air. It’s not the time for a margarita or a light beer. It’s the season for cocktails that will warm you from the inside out.

To add some warm winter flavor to your cocktails throughout the cold months, try mixing with root beer instead of cola or soda. It already has a different flavor thanks to spices like ginger, anise, allspice, cinnamon, and cloves, and that complexity means root beer doesn’t need much dressing up to create a delicious cocktail. In fact, the less complicated the recipe, the more the root beer flavors enhance – rather than compete – with the other components. Our hard Rowdy Root Beer is the perfect detail to these winter cocktails. Mixed right, it can be the perfect way to toast a new season.

Classic Black & Brown

When most people think of hearty, warming beers, they think Guinness. A classic for dark beer lovers since 1959, Guinness boasts a combination of bitter and sweet with a creamy feel. Mix Guinness, or another dark Stout style beer, with an equal amount of root beer for a different flavor or experiment with different ratios of the two to find your perfect drink.

Sasparilla Assassin

If you want to up the alcohol content of your root beer cocktail, the Sasparilla Assassin will do the trick. A traditional assassin is a spin-off of a Long Island Iced Tea, with whiskey, tequila, schnapps, and cola. For the Sasparilla-style mix, combine equal parts of whiskey, tequila, and peppermint schnapps over ice and top off with root beer. The peppermint schnapps and root beer flavors give the Assassin a unique taste, while the whiskey and tequila pack a punch.

Root beer floats are beloved summer treats, and the alcoholic version, the Corbob, is simple and delicious. Pour 2 ounces of Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur over ice, then add 12 ounces of root beer and stir for a sweet wintry treat to remind you of summer! (And if you really want to relive that feeling, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream!)

The Fluff’s Oasis Brown Sugar

The Fluff’s Oasis Brown Sugar is like the Corbob with a twist. Start with Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur, 1.5 ounces over ice. Add a splash of your favorite coffee flavored liqueur like Patron XO or Kahlua, and top with root beer. It’s creamy and sweet with a rich hint of coffee.

West Coast Paralyzer

If you’re really looking for a substantial cocktail, the West Coast Paralyzer has you covered. Different from a normal Paralyzer made with cola, the West Coast version uses root beer for a unique taste. Start with an ounce of tequila over ice, and then add an ounce of Kahlua. Then add half a glass of milk and top off with half a glass of root beer, and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Heliuva Root Beer

To enhance the natural spicy sweetness of root beer, mix it with spiced rum for a Heliuva Root Beer. Start with 2 ounces of Captain Morgan’s or another spiced rum over ice and add 8 ounces of root beer. Garnish with a cherry and enjoy!

Root Beer Fizz

To get a little fancier, add a few more ingredients for root beer’s version of a Gin Fizz. In a shaker with ice, combine two ounces of gin, one ounce of lemon juice, and one teaspoon of superfine sugar. Shake well and strain into a glass of ice. Add root beer and stir, then garnish with a cherry.
